Legal framework / Legislation

The most basic new parameter which has been included according to the Regulation Κ.Δ.Π. 668/2004 (Regulatory Administrative Act), is the meaning of producer responsibility. This, in essence, is based on the general principle of "the polluter pays”.  This meaning which, in essence, governs all the range of the European Legislation relative to waste, brought the businesses to the position of the responsible (the liable), for the recovery and utilization of the waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment.

Despite the fact that the principle of co-responsibility of all economic factors which are related to the life-cycle of the Electrical/Electronic Appliances, that is the manufacturers, the transporters, the Local Authorities and the citizens, is recognized by Law, a big share of the responsibility is placed on the shoulders of the organizations which:

  • Manufacture and sell electrical and electronic equipment with their own trade mark or brand
  • Resell with their own trade mark or brand and/or with any other way, equipment which is produced by other suppliers.
  • Import or export electrical and electronic equipment on a professional basis, to a member state of the European Union or transport to the Republic electrical or electronic equipment, on a professional basis, from another member state of the European Union.
